Manchester City 5-2 CSKA Moscow Alvaro Negredo grabbed a hat-trick as Manchester City hit five against CSKA Moscow to secure a place in the Champions League last-16. The Spanish hitman added to a Sergio Aguero brace in the first half to send City in at the break 3-1 ahead, with the Russian outfit pulled one back right on the half time whistle. City had a dream start on three minutes when David Silva was brought down on the left side of the CSKA area by Zoran Tosic and Aguero stepped up to fire his penalty out of the reach of Igor Akinfeevs dive. It was 2-0 on 20 minutes when Samir Nasri played the ball to the feet of Aguero inside the CSKA area and he turned Alexei Berezoutski before firing low into the net. It was virtually game over on the half hour, when Negredo played the ball wide out on the right to Aguero whose cross back in was on a plate for the Spaniard to score from close range. Citys shaky defence was finally shown up right on half time, CSKA broke after Silva missed the ball for a simple tap-in at the other end and Keisuke Honda played in Seydou Doumbia, who went past Costel Pantilimon to finish into the empty net. The three-goal cushion was restored though on 51 minutes when Yaya Toure chipped the ball into the box and Nasri unselfishly teed up Negredo to get his second of the night from close range. More sloppy play by City handed CSKA another route back into the contest on 71 minutes, when Gael Clichy needlessly brought down Doumbia in the area and he stepped up to send Pantilimon the wrong way from the penalty spot for his second of the game. However, the game was put to bed deep into stoppage time when James Milner chipped a cross to the back post and Negredo headed in his hat-trick goal to put the icing on the cake. Bayern Munichs 1-0 win at Viktoria Plzen also means City are into the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time in their history.
