Manchester City have joined bitter rivals Manchester United and Arsenal in the race for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo. The Spanish star left the Gunners in 2011 to re-join his boyhood club, but despite having enjoyed a successful few years at the Nou Camp he is looking likely to leave this summer. Barca are rumoured to be ready to offload Fabregas if a decent offer comes in, with the club set to go through a period of change in the coming off-season, as manager Tata Martino looks set to leave. United and Arsenal were thought to be the main candidates for his signature, but now it appears that City have entered the race. Director of football Txiki Begiristain has been tasked with finding big name players to bolster the Sky Blues’ ranks, and has been alerted by the World Cup winner’s availability. United are rumoured to be ready to pay up to £45m for his signature, which is a figure City could stretch to given their vast funds. Fabregas made his name with Arsenal after joining the north London club from Barca as a teenager.
