Manchester... Tonights street kitchen was busy, supported by Double Tree Hilton Piccadilly and the most amazing volunteers. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed and the food was plentiful.... The amazing volunteers from Hilton Kay and Maria took off to the streets to give out the left overs... The #safesleep emergency night shelter has taken full effect.... Tonight between 8.20 and 9pm we took 7 referrals for the night. All 7 guys were given a bed for the night and if this is anything to go by we have a feeling that we will be busy over the next few days and nights... Where are the council? We know that the cold weather provision is not in effect and have been told that No 2nd Night Out is not operating to full effect...(this is not a C4C opinion just information given) but surely everyone deserves to have a bed for the night? These guys, 1 of which fell asleep on route were offered showers, new boxers, socks, snacks/breakfast and wash kits etc... A bed and transport into and out of the shelter (if wanted) all this cost a maximum of £8 per night... How can this be possible yet the council/government is happy to not fund this and have people sleeping on the streets each night..... Is this ok?
