Nemanja Vidic Signed in 2006, Vidic went on to become one of the most influential captains the club has ever seen. Making 300 appearances, Vidic was a rock at the back alongside Rio Ferdinand, and the two of them were instrumental as United won the Champions League in 2008. Patrice Evra Also signed in the same year as Vidic, Evra had a difficult start to his United career. Debuting in his first Manchester derby in 2006 the Frenchman struggled to cope with the attacking exploits of Trevor Sinclair and was brought off at half time. Evra did, however, develop into a key member of the back four during Sir Alex Ferguson’s last few seasons at the club.
