Manchester United are closing in on a £37million deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho. The People is reporting that the Angola-born 21-year-old’s agent has been shown around the club’s Carrington training ground, with the deal to be completed after the World Cup. The defensive midfielder joined Sporting as a 13-year-old and qualified for the Portugal national side, winning his first cap in the play-off away leg against Sweden. He has attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester City amongst a host of top European clubs, but United appear to have moved to the top of the queue after agreeing to pay the buy-out clause in his contract with the Portuguese giants. With the purchases of Juan Mata (£37million), Marouane Fellaini (£27.5million), and Guillermo Varela (£2.4m), it will take Moyes spending past the £100million mark.
