Manchester United are edging closer to signing Victor Valdes after the goalkeeper turned down the chance to play in a friendly match for Catalonia. The Spaniard has been training with United for a few weeks with the club thought to be chewing over the idea of offering him a contract as he regains his fitness after suffering a cruciate knee injury. And now the 32-year-old has refused an offer to represent Catalonia at the end of the month against a Basque side in an exhibition match. “Valdes cannot come or has chosen not to come,” Gerard Lopez, the coach of the Catalan side, told Catalonia Radio. “Pending the future, I opened the door for him to come but they [Valdes and his representatives] declined the proposal. “He is a Catalan and a great goalkeeper and I support him. I do not know why, he has his reasons, but declined the proposal.” Catalan-based newspaper Sport also say United are confident of reaching agreement with the former Barcelona stopper. The move, though, raises questions over the future of David De Gea, who is said to be unsettled by his compatriot’s presence at Old Trafford. vanessa https://youtube/watch?v=bnYBtBM92rY#t=55
