Manchester United are planning a £52m double bid for Juventus pair Arturo Vidal and Angelo Ogbonna. United were heavily linked with Vidal this summer but will move again in January and they are set to make it a double swoop on with a move for team-mate Ogbonna. Boss Louis van Gaal is planning a £52m package to lure the pair to Old Trafford. Former star Patrice Evra has revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson battled in vain to keep Paul Pogba at Manchester United. Ferguson was eager to keep the French midfielder and despatched experienced left-back Evra to convince his compatriot to stay at Old Trafford. He told La Republica: “Sir Alex Ferguson sent me to his house to convince him to stay [at United] - he wept, he did not sleep, because he know that he could become better than Vieira, but he had decided Transfer target William Carvalho is set to sign a new contract with Sporting Lisbon but he could still be on the move. The Portuguese defensive midfielder was the subject of summer transfer bids from United and Arsenal but he looks set to sign a new contract with Sporting. However, despite Carvalhos wages rising tenfold the £37m buy-out clause in his new contract, which still runs until 2018, remains in place. Old Trafford officials are yet to offer young midfielder Andreas Pereira a new contract. Pereira was a shock inclusion in Van Gaals squad for the 4-0 Premier League win over QPR two weeks ago but he has not been offered fresh terms despite his current deal expiring in less than a year. He said: They havent contacted me yet, but Van Gaal told me to stay calm.
