Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits he is “obliged” to play 3-5-2 due to injuries... Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits he is almost “obliged” to play three at the back in his 3-5-2 formation due to injuries at the club, while also praising Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young. Furthermore, the Dutchman claimed things are “not so good” at Man United, as he is “forced” to select his team, due to injuries. The Dutch coach is renowned for his 3-5-2 formation which he has used a number of times throughout his career, but it failed to reap the dividends when he first instilled it at Old Trafford. Louis van Gaal: “We want to build a #fortress at Old Trafford” After the return of Luke Shaw and Rafael, van Gaal reverted back to a diamond formation, but injuries have struck his back-line again. The former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager is now playing a 3-5-2 again which has worked well for the Red Devils as they continue their fine run of form. Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia have been doing the job at wing-back for van Gaal and he admits he is pleased with their progress, as well as admitting he uses 3-5-2 due to injuries at the club. When asked how pleased he was with Young and Valencia, van Gaal told MUTV: “Yeah, but as wing-backs and not as full-backs.Now I am more or less obliged to play with wing-backs because the real full-backs, Shaw and Rafael da Silva, were not fit enough and that is not good. “I have to select what I want but now I am forced to select. For a manager, that is not so good.” #Akimbo
