Manchester United handed 5-man shortlist by Van Gaal Louis van - TopicsExpress

Manchester United handed 5-man shortlist by Van Gaal Louis van Gaal has made his first definitive decision as Manchester United manager, and decided to scrap the majority of the club’s transfer plans, according to the Manchester Evening News. United had prepared themselves for a busy second summer window under David Moyes, before they decided to give the Scot the boot before the end of the season, and the general consensus was that Van Gaal would be setting about acquiring the players on a pre-determined shortlist. However MEN claims that the Dutchman has his own idea as to who needs to be bought in this summer, and has handed chief executive Ed Woodward a list of the players he expects to arrive at Old Trafford. As was reported last week, Toni Kroos is now no longer a priority purchase and it’s now also believed that Van Gaal is ready to cool his interest in Francesc Fabregas. Alternatively it’s thought that the 62-year-old is intent on turning to a wish-list that he himself has drawn up and includes the names of Mats Hummels, Luke Shaw, Kevin Strootman, Marco Reus and Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka. Not only is Van Gaal desperate to ensure that the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are not overly detrimental to United’s on-pitch fortunes - hence the interest in Hummels - but he’s also said to be intent on adding quality to his midfield, and area which Moyes struggled with.
