The Manchester United manager wasnt exactly dismissive in his media briefing ahead of Sundays game against Liverpool but he was always in control and there was no humour. In revealing there were only four players sidelined, Van Gaal was confirming the returns of Phil Jones and Rafael, who have both been out since October. Van Gaal also shrugged off the midweek criticism of ex-legend Gary Neville and Sir Alex Fergusons former assistant-manager Mike Phelan. Over the past few weeks he has rebuked the media when they have started questions by telling him what the fans think. Today, when asked what the fans had been telling him about this particular fixture, Van Gaal retorted: You know them better than I because I hear in every press conference that the fans are saying this or that so I assume you are speaking to the supporters a lot.
