Manchester United ‘s famous Class of ’92 is ready to front a multi-billion pound Manchester United takeover bid that will be backed by oil money, according to The Sun . The reports come on the same day that the Manchester Evening News has run with an exclusive that Gary Neville and Paul Scholes will announce their takeover of Salford City with Paul Scholes to be placed in as manager. Two completely different reports, both on the same day and while the thought of having the Class of ’92 in part control of Manchester United is fantastic, it is likely to be nothing more than a pipe dream. Plenty of ‘takeover bids’ have never been substantiated in the past and this is just another one to add to the pile. The rumours about a Salford City takeover are far more believable as the players have already been involved with the club for some time. A source for MEN said: “They see this as a huge project and see no reason why a city the size of Salford should not have a football league club. They are already speaking to players from leagues as high up as the Conference North with a view to signing them next year. “They are selling them a dream, telling them they want Championship football within 15 years and that Paul Scholes will become the manager when they go full-time. “They’re also saying that they will change the club’s name to Salford 92 – it’s staggering stuff.” Nicky Butt , Paul Scholes , Ryan Giggs and Phil and Gary Neville all love football and love Manchester, so the prospect of them getting involved with a local team makes perfect sense.
