Manchester United secure a world record £300m, 5-year shirt deal with Nike. Manchester United’s coffers are to be swelled dramatically in the near future, after the Red Devils inch close to securing a world record £300m, 5-year shirt deal with Nike. The story, printed on the backpage of the Friday Sun, claims the kit deal “will more than triple the annual amount [Manchester United] receive under their current contract with the sportswear giant. And it is double today’s top kit deal in world football – Real Madrid’s £31m-a-year tie-up with Adidas.” As is the way of the world in the tabloid press, the Sun then go on to invest Manchester United’s new cash injection in hypothetical January transfers. Leighton Baines, Robert Lewandowski and Cesc Fabregas are all said to remain as potential targets for David Moyes. Should the deal come to fruition then it would equal the Premier League’s record deal signed between Chelsea and Adidas earlier this year whereby the Pensioners agreed a 10-year contract worth £300million with Nike’s main rivals.
