Manchester United wanted James Rodriguez but signed Bebe - TopicsExpress

Manchester United wanted James Rodriguez but signed Bebe instead James Rodriguez Sir Alex Ferguson nearly pulled off one of the great transfers of the modern era, signing Colombian superstar James Rodriguez for just £5m before he became the Real Madrid playmaker he is today. Back before he joined Porto when James was playing for Argentinian side Banfield, Manchester United scouts were regularly attending his games. When Porto made an offer to bring him to Portugal, French newspaper Le 10 Sport claims that Manchester United also made a £5m offer to bring him to Old Trafford. Unfortunately a deal fell through with James joining Porto and Ferguson turning back to United’s favourite market to acquire young talent - Portugal. Once again, unfortunately for United rather than plucking out another Cristiano Ronaldo or even another Nani, Ferguson spent the best part of £7m on Bebe. It doesn’t get more disheartening that that - James Rodriguez or Bebe.
