Mangomas letter to Tsvangirai exposes MDC- Ts inner rot: Analysts say the letter written by the MDC-T’s Elton Mangoma calling for the ouster of Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has exposed the fact that even a leadership renewal can never solve the party’s problems. In the letter, Mangoma dwelt on the irrelevance of Tsvangirai to his party, the poor leadership skills and the corruption that has rocked the MDC-T. The party’s deputy treasurer-gener al wrote what he called ‘Restoration of hope and confidence: A cause for leadership renewal position of the President’. In Mangoma’s rejection of Tsvangirai’s leadership, he says the MDC-T leader should consider leaving office as the party is in dire need of new ideas, new thinking, a new trajectory and new stimulus. Closely tied to the heavy defeat in the July 31 polls, Mr Mangoma admits that the party’s primary elections, where senior party officials sought to manipulate its outcome, has left the Tsvangirai-led movement in a state of confusion, consternation and apprehension grieving from a crisis of leadership, legitimacy, expectation and above all a crisis of confidence, externally and internally. While some within the MDC-T have attempted to divert attention by pointing fingers at other political parties, for analyst Alexander Rusero, this is an admission that after so many years of trying to win power, the MDC- T movement is doomed. “The MDC-T can change leadership everyday if they want as long as their ideology is not rooted in nationalism, they will fail to have relevance,” he said. Another analyst, Alexander Kanengoni says leadership change is not however the answer for the MDC-T, whose DNA lacks anything Zimbabwean. He said, “In several polls under Tsvangirai, the party has failed to win power. This has angered the hierarchy and exposed deep divisions which unfortunately are leading to doom than gloom.” The hard-hitting letter also reveals that during the party’s tenure in the inclusive government, its officials were concerned more with personal gain, wealth accumulation and mainstreaming their power base.
