Manila Water Co. and Maynilad Water Systems, Inc. shocked consumers after the advocacy group Water for People Network revealed that the two water concessionaires passed on to consumers the payment of millions of its income taxes. Manila Water and Maynilad pointed to the concession agreement with MWSS in justifying the recovery of taxes through additional collections from the consumers. More shocking findings were made known to all after the WPN informed the public that expenses for transportation, recreation, representation and gifts were also part of the big chunk collected from consumers through large water bills. Unfortunately, the current administration seems to ignore this very serious matter as the Palace did not make any statements calling the attention of the MWSS or the water concessionaires.Consumers should not carry the burden of paying income taxes incurred by these businesses. The fact that these are income taxes of Maynilad and Manila Water from the conduct of their businesses should make it easy for the government to realize that consumers should not pay for it. The BIR and the MWSS might have some explaining to do so as to convince every consumer-tax payer that they are paying the correct amounts due. faki exflain sa taong bayan!
