Manipal, August 2, 2013: All college students association affiliated to Polytechnic staged a day long hunger strike to demand the amendment of present carry over system in front of DC office today on the 2nd August, 2013 from 8 AM till 5 PM. The present carry-over system prohibits a student from continuing to the next semester if he or she has failed in more than four subjects. More than 300 students from various Polytechnic Colleges from the district participated in this hunger strike. All college Students Association state president Mr. Dinakar Shetty addressed the students during the event. Udupi MLA Mr. Pramod Madvaraj visited to the protesting spot and promised that he will support and help the students for the amendment of the carry over system and showed his support by sitting and listening to the striking students. The students urged the Chief Minister to intervene and solve the problems as soon as possible. Student leaders also cautioned that they will conduct protest in front of higher education minister’s house if the government fail to solve the carry over problems at the earliest. The hunger strike was lead by Polytechnic All College Students Association Udupi unit chairman Jovin, assistant secretary Sachin and the leaders Ajit Karkera, Mohit Bhat, Sandesh, Sukesh, Vishal, Karthik, Roshan and many others.
