Manipur cabinet approves bill to set up two universities in the state INDIATODAY.IN NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 17, 2014 | UPDATED 18:08 IST The Manipur State Cabinet in a meeting today has decided to establish two new universities in the state. Minister Okendro Moirangthem told reporters that the state cabinet has given the greenlight. The meeting also decided to table the bill in the forthcoming winter session of the state assembly. Of the two, the first one will be established in Churachandpur, and will be named after the state animal Sangai, and the other will be named as Dhanamanjuri University. This was announced by Education Minister M Okendro following the cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi. Every year some 7,500 to 8,500 students graduate from different colleges in Manipur, but as the PG seats are limited in Manipur University and Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, only a few of them could be accommodated. This means that about 60-70 percent of them were either migrate to other states for further studies or drop out. These two universities are to be established under RUSA, which plans to establish a total of 200 Universities in India, and the HRD Ministry has agreed to sanction Rs 55 crore for the project. Under this University, DM College of Arts, Science, Commerce, Teachers Education, Hindi Training Institute, GP Women College and LMS Law College will be affiliated. indiatoday.intoday.in/education/story/education-boosttwo-university-for-manipur/1/407343.html
