Manipur cabinet okays establishment of 5 new sub-divisions MU NEWS/IMPHAL, Aug 7 : The state cabinet meeting which was held under the chairmanship of the state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today has agreed to establish five sub-divisions in the state. The said new sub-divisions which are supposed to be announced as new sub-divisions sooner or later are Mao and Bungte Chiru in Senapati District, Lungchong Meiphai in Ukhrul District, Thangting in Churachandpur District and Haochong in Tamenglong District. The decision of the state cabinet was conveyed to media by the state education minister M Okendra who is the spokesperson of the state government this evening. There are a total of 13 villages under Mao sub-division with a population of around 51,138. Earlier it was under Tadubi Sud-Division. Lungchong Meiphai Sub-division which was a TD Block,has as many as 28 villages with a total population of 42,451. Thangting which was established with 66 villages from churachandpur and 59 from Henglep sub-divisions, with a population of 27,730. On the other hand Haochong has 16 villages and population of 14,120. Bungte Chiru which was under SDC Kangchup Circle has as many as 27 villages and with a population of 12,071. The step has been taken for the administrative convenience and also to ease the general public while collecting their Schedule Tribe Certificate, Income Certificate and other required documents from the district headquarters or block headquarters. The cabinet also decided to appoint four Additional Government Advocates through the Manipur Public Service Commission.
