Manipur pledges to guard territorial integrity Imphal Jul 27: To protect the territorial integrity of Manipur at any cost was Saturday reaffirmed while remembering the day on which the three words “without territorial limit” from the Bangkok declaration (cease fire extension) signed between the government of India and NSCN(IM) on this very day in 2001. This day has been observing by the All Clubs Orgns Assn & Meira Paibi-Lup (ACOAMLUP), Kangleipak every year as “Integrity Protection Day” since 2009. This year the observance function was held at the Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace Gate. President of ACOAM Lup Kshetrimayum Somorendro, its advisor H Kulla, former project director of Manipur Aids Control Society (MACS) Dr Khomdon Laishram, president of Editors Forum Manipur P Ibochouba, president of Kanglamei Y Leirikleima, president of Kanglei Ima Lup RK Sanahanbi graced the function as presidium members. Leaders of various civil organizations who spoke on the occasion as invitees stressed the need of the people of the state to remain united and alert to fight against any attempt to disintegrate Manipur, asserting that threat to territorial integrity of the state is as still persisting. They stressed that different civil societies and organizations of the state should cast off all differences and works for strengthening the unity and integrity of the state. They expressed their believed that the observation would prevail upon the people of the state that unity is strength while calling upon all civil societies and organizations of the state to come under a umbrella body and monitor the development of the Indo-Naga peace talks. Delivering this key note address of the occasion, general secretary of ACOAM Lup Sanjit Soraisam “the organization (ACOAM Lup) acknowledges the sacrifices of the people including the 18 lives lost during the Great June Uprising, 2001 in the state and places it in the highest level. Asserting that the organization is always ready to face any kinds of threats on the territorial integrity of the state, he added the organization has been participating in all state territorial integrity related issues since its establishment in 2001. It had also taken a leading role in pressuring the centre for removal of the phrase “without territorial limits” from the cease fire agreement between the centre and the NSCN (IM), he continued. In memory of the historic day on which Government of India deleted the three words “without territorial limit” from the Bangkok declaration (cease fire extension) signed between the Government of India and NSCN(IM) on 27 july 2001 because of heavy pressure from the people of Manipur, ACOAM-Lup, Kangleipak has been observing the day as integrity protection day since 2009.
