The President of India added that the North East region is a natural bridge between the country and the South East Asian countries. I understand the strategic importance of the North East region. This region can become a centre for major investments, he added. This was Pranab Mukherjees second visit to Nagaland after he became the President of India. The last time he visited the state was in May this year where Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio had invited him to be the chief guest in The Hornbill Festival 2013. Meanwhile, Pranab Mukherjee called Neiphiu Rio a dynamic chief minister and said The Hornbill Festival unites the Naga tribes. . S Ranjita Leima, councilor of ward No. 1 of Yairipok Nagar Panchayat was elected uncontested as new chairperson on Nov 19 in the presence of SDO Thoubal, Y Rajen Singh. The election of the new chairperson was done following a no confidence motion was served against the former chairperson Th Nokul Meitei by S Romola Devi of ward No 8, S Ranjita Leima of ward No 1, L Haryari Devi of ward No 4, Nashira Begum of ward No 6 and S Tunanbi Devi of ward No 7. An all political party delegation led by O Ibobi left for Delhi yesterday except for representatives of BJP and MPP. The delegates will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh; UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi; Union Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Sindhae; External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid regarding the international border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur. It may be mentioned that there has been a rising concern over the Indo-Myanmar border fencing and representatives of the political parties after meeting with the Chief Minister have been deliberating on the issue. Sources said that the delegates will urge the concerned Union top brass to investigate and demarcate the border line with Myanmar to settle the boundary issue once and for all. The state political delegate is said to have an appointment with the surveyor officials of India. The construction of the border fencing is presently undertaken by the BRTF under the Ministry of Home. The representatives of the other parties outside the Congress will also submit their memoranda’s of concern.
