Manipuri News Headline Imphal, June 21, 2013 . CPI has yesterday announced a 12 hour total state bandh today from 5 am to 5 pm against police action during a party organized rally which was marching towards the state Assembly where the Full Budget session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly was in progress. Announcing the bandh, secretary of the CPI, state council, Dr M Nara called a press conference at the party’s office yesterday evening. He said police resorted to firing mock bombs and tear gas shells against the democratic march of the CPI supporters and workers which was moving towards the state Assembly yesterday noon. During police firing a worker of the party was injured, he said before adding that he is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS. He said that around 2000 workers of the CPI had started their march. CPI calls 12 hour bandh against police action from the party’s office against the failure of the state government to properly implement any developmental policies and programs in the state. . Unidentified persons suspected to be KCP cadres fired 10 rounds at a house at Yairipok Kekru Mathak Leikai belonging to an employee of the PHED identified as one Longjam Deben Singh, 50 son of (L) Tomba Singh, informed a reliable source. The source added that the incident happened around 2 am yesterday and there were no reports of any human casualty though one of the doors of the house was partially damaged. It is also learnt that the said PHED employee had received monetary demands from the outfit some days ago. Locals held a sit in protest yesterday against the firing incidents in the locality. . The House yesterday passed three different demands amounting to a total of Rs 1005,39, 81,000 tabled by the state Chief Minister who also holds the Finance portfolio during yesterday’s sitting of the ongoing Full Budget session. The three demands included Demand no 10 for Education amounting to Rs 821,9188,000; Demand no 21 for Commerce and Industries amounting to Rs 92,10,99,000 and Demand no 39 for Sericulture amounting to Rs 91,36,94,000. . The government is sincerely making efforts to improve the education sector of Manipur. But all of 60 MLAs, who are members of the House must take responsibility and invest 50% of their local development fund (LADF) even if only for once in a year so as to improve the education sector in their own constituencies. This was stated by Education Minister when Demand No 10 for education sector tabled by the CM Okram Ibobi Singh was discussed yesterday. Invest 30% only if not 50% said the Minister trying to coax his colleagues and other MLAs. . A 17 year old girl who went to take college admission form was allegedly abducted and gangraped by some men on 19th of this month. According to the victim’s family, the girl went to take admission form from Universal College, Yairipok on that day. On hearing that the girl was abducted by some persons from the college gate, search parties were sent out in different directions and a report was filed with police. The abductors brought the girl and abandoned her at the family’s residential gate about 12.30 am yesterday. The girl was immediately rushed to RIMS and she has been examined at RIMS Forensic Science Department. . The dead body of a male recovered on Wednesday from the roadside some 200 meters away from the Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak has been identified yesterday by the mother of the deceased. Concerned with the brutal death, different student bodies of the state including the All Manipur Students’ Union; the Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal; the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association called a joint press conference at the AMSU office yesterday. The student bodies have jointly condemned the incident alleging the murder of the 17 year old and further demanded for a proper investigation from the state government. . The Ministry of Small and Micro Enterprises has approved esta-blishment of two industrial estates at Thoubal and Bishnu-pur. Reliance company has surveyed Jiribam bamboo chipping plant and it would be privatised soon. While discussing a demand for Commerce and Industries Department yesterday in the State Assembly, Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas stated that the Ministry gave its approval on June 14 for upgradation of Takyel industrial estate and establishment of two new industrial estates at Thoubal and Bishnupur. Informing the House that the State did not seek any fund from the Ministry during the past 20 years, Govindas stated that the Industrial Development Bank of India would be releasing for the State. The Ministry has also agreed in principle to set up industrial estates in Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur. Saying that Manipur ranks third in handloom industry, Govindas informed that handloom production units would be given grants of Rs 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs each. The State Government has drawn up a plan to build warehouses at Jiribam, Imphal and Moreh. . In protest against the Government’s plan of converting Ramlal Paul Hr Sec School into a girls exclusive school, students of the school yesterday locked office rooms of the Principal as well as the Vice-Principal. Finance secretary of Ramlal Paul Hr Sec School Students’ Union M Chingkhei said that the Government’s plan of converting their school into a girls exclusive school is unacceptable by any logic. It is highly condemnable that the Principal and the Vice-Principal have given their consent to the Government initiative without giving any thought to the fate of around 123 students studying in the school presently. Students of the school would boycott the Principal and the Vice-Principal until an agreement is reached with the Government, said Chingkhei. The students have no objection if the school is converted into a co-educational school, he added.
