Manipuri youth sets new Guinness World Record: Maibam Itomba Meitei, a youth from Manipur has successfully achieved a new Guinness World Record title in the event “The most consecutive pinky chin ups.” The 24-year-old from Imphal West achieved the record here on March 15, 2014, a joint statement from the Brilliant Club and LAKHSH Pioneer Committee said on Wednesday. In his younger years, Itomba had a weak and thin body but he wanted to become a healthy and fit person. Hence, he joined a local gym called Uripok Development Body Building Association here. Later, he joined SAI Sports Complex for more improvement of his body. In the midst of his hard labour, he participated in the State Level Weightlifting Championship in 2007 in the weight category of 50 kg, where he came out first. In the same year, he joined the All India SAI Inter Weightlifting Championship at Vishakhapatnam. In that competition he was adjudged second. He also participated in the 4th Sub Junior (Boys) National Championship in 2007 and bagged the first position. Seing the activities of Guinness World Record holders through local cable TV he started dreaming of becoming a Guinness World Record holder himself. He thought the weakest part of the human being is the little finger. But he wanted it to be used as the strongest among other fingers. After few months’ practice, his little fingers could support his whole body weight for some seconds to some minutes by hanging himself from a hook. He then concentrated his mind to become a Guinness World Record holder in the item of ‘Pull Up by Little Fingers’. The earlier record held by an American was 16 pull ups by little fingers. Itomba wanted to break this record. He successfully pulled up 20 times in just 30.906 seconds during an exhibition held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy Hall on October 14, 2012, to set a new world record.
