Manners of the Prophet Anas bin Malik (radi Allahu anhu) said: “Whenever the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) shook hands with a man, he would not withdraw his hand until the latter withdrew his, and he would also not turn his face away until the latter turned away his. And the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) used not to walk in front of his friends.” [Tirmidhi] These are the manners by which we show respect and love to people. This is the humble and considerate manner in which Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) likes us to deal with our fellow humans. These manners are referred to in Surah Luqman: “And do not turn your cheek away from people, and do not walk on the earth haughtily. Surely, Allah does not like anyone who is arrogant, proud. And be moderate in your walk, and lower your voice. Surely, the ugliest of voices is the voice of the donkey." [Ayaat 18-19] A reminder: Sometimes we forget that most deserving of our good manners are our parents, spouses, in-laws and immediate family. Not only are they also a part of the brotherhood of Islam but are more deserving than our friends of our cheerful and respectful conduct.
