Manny Pacman Pacquiao(WBO Welterweight Champion) vs Chris Algieri - TopicsExpress

Manny Pacman Pacquiao(WBO Welterweight Champion) vs Chris Algieri - There isnt a lot of buzz for this one despite it being a Pacquiao fight. Nevertheless, its the fight of the weekend, has some interesting factors, and deserves a breakdown. The challenger Algieri is an orthodox boxer-type. His best punches are his jab and his straight right hand, though he has pretty sound overall technique with his punches. He has a nice busy style offensively, mostly focusing on head shots and counterpunching. Good stamina, hand speed, foot speed, length, and uses angles well to set up his offense. Low physical strength and very little power in his punches though. Defensively, Algieri is good at using his speed and movement to get out of trouble and has pretty good reflexes in terms of slipping punches, but not great at blocking shots. His toughness is good, good chin, and he has a lot of heart, though he does swell up fairly easily if the Ruslan fight is an accurate indication. The champion Pacquiao is an unorthodox southpaw boxer-puncher type at this stage of his career. His best punch by far is his sneaky straight left though over the last few years his counter right hook has grown in effectiveness. Worse punch is his jab. Also has a fairly busy offensive style, able to pressure, box, and counterpunch depending on the situation. His punches come in on opponents at weird angles that are hard to prepare for with the possible exception of his rival JMM and he mixes his punches up well to the head and body. Very good hand and foot speed, power, and stamina. Short for the weight class and can sometimes be a little wild with his shots, though for the most part the boxer Pacquiao is what reins supreme these days. Defensively Pacquiao is decent, able to use his speed to dart in and out of trouble, with good reflexes in terms of slipping shots, though he is fairly open if his opponent can time him coming inside. Good chin, good toughness, lots of heart. I think this is one where well find out fairly early how much of a chance Algieri has. If he can get Pacquiaos respect with a solid jab and keep the fight a ranged boxing match, it will still be a very hard fight due to Pacquiaos speed but he has a chance to outbox Pacquiao. That said, I dont think he has the pop to get Pacquiaos respect and while the technique and speed gap was pretty wide in Algieris favor against Ruslan, against Pacquiao he has the length advantage but Pacquiao has faster hands and feet as well and gobs of top level experience which Algieri cant match. So I think while Algieri will give it his best, that Pacquiao will win by a fairly lopsided decision in a decent fight. Heres a decent promo for the fight: https://youtube/watch?v=HHcQxDtLZFM
