Manohar Parrikar is the new Defence Minister and Suresh Prabhu will head the Railway Ministry Minister in the expansion—cum—reshuffle of the Narendra Modi ministry after 21 new Ministers were sworn—in today. Parrikar, who quit as Goa Chief Minister yesterday to join the Union Cabinet, takes over the charge from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who held the Defence portfolio as an additional charge. Interestingly, Jaitley has been given the additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry. J P Nadda, who also joined the Union Cabinet, gets the portfolio of Health and Family Welfare portfolio, held by Harsh Vardhan who has been shifted to the Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Ministry. Haryana leader Birender Singh, who had quit the Congress recently, is the new Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation, a charge held by Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari till now after the demise of Gopinath Munde. D V Sadananda Gowda, who has been shifted from the Railways Ministry, has been made the Law and Justice Minister, relieving Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from the charge. Rajiv Pratap Rudy is the new Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Ministry. He also gets the charge of Parliamentary Affairs as MoS alongwith Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who is also MoS for Minority Affairs with Najma Heptulla retained as the Cabinet Minister. Bandaru Dattatreya is the new Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment while Mahesh Sharma gets the charge of Tourism as MoS (IC). Mahesh Sharma also gets the charge of MoS Culture (Independent Charge), Tourism (Independent Charge) and MoS Civil Aviation. Among the 14 Ministers of State inducted today, Ram Kripal Yadav, who quit RJD and joined BJP before the Lok Sabha polls, gets Drinking Water & Sanitation, Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary (Home Affairs), Sanwar Lal Jat (Water Resources), River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai Kundariya (Agriculture). Giriraj Singh is the new MoS for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Ministry, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir ( Chemicals & Fertilizers), Manuskhbhai Dhanjibhai Vasava for Tribal Affairs, Ram Shankar Katheria for Human Resource Development. Y S Chowdary is the new MoS, Science and Technology and Earth Science, Jayant Sinha is MoS Finance, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is MoS Information & Broadcasting and Babul Supriyo is MoS, Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti is the new MoS Food Processing Industries and Vijay Sampla is MoS Social Justice & Empowerment. Prakash Javadekar is now MoS (Independent Charge) of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry and has been stripped of the charge of Information and Broadcasting as well as Parliamentary Affairs Ministry. Santosh Gangwar will now only hold the charge of Textiles Ministry and MoS (Independent charge) and has been stripped of the charge of MoS Parliamentary Affairs and MoS, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. The charge of Labour and Employment has been taken away from Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and given to Bandaru Dattatreya as MoS (IC). Gen (retd) V K Singh is the new MoS (Independent Charge) of Statistics and Programme Implementation, taking over the charge from Rao Inderjit Singh, who is now MoS Planning (Independent Charge) and MoS Defence. V K Singh will also continue to hold the charges of MoS External Affairs and MoS Overseas Indian Affairs. MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh gets the additional charge of Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (Independent Charge) till now held by V K Singh. The charge of Ministry of Science and Technology (Independent Charge) and Earth Sciences (Independent Charge) has been taken away from Jitendra Singh. Shripad Yesso Naik is the new Minister of State (Independent Charge) of AYUSH (Independent Charge) and MoS Health & Family Welfare, shifting him from the charges of MoS Culture (Independent Charge) and MoS Tourism (Independent Charge) which have now been given to Mahesh Sharma. The charge of MoS Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has also been taken away from Sarbananda Sonowal, who now retains only Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge). Nirmala Sitharaman would only hold the charge of Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Independent Charge) and the additional charges of MoS Finance and MoS Corporate Affairs have been taken away from her. G M Siddeshwara is the new MoS Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, shifting him from the Civil Aviation Ministry which has now been given to Mahesh Sharma. Nihalchand gets the charge of MoS Panchayati Raj instead of Chemicals and Fertilizers, while Upendra Kushwaha is the new MoS HRD Ministry, shifting him from MoS Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministries. P Radhakrishnan is the new MoS Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, instead of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, while Krishan Pal gets the charge of Social Justice and Empowerment, shifting him from Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Ministries. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan retains only MoS Agriculture and the is stripped of the additional charge of Food Processing Industries Ministry.
