Manston Airport Compulsory Purchase I am warming to the idea of Thanet Council, possibly in association with Kent County Council, undertaking a Compulsory Purchase of the Airport. This would have the advantages of enabling the development of a sustainable business plan for continued aeronautical related use of the site. If this proves unfeasible then, under council ownership, it will be possible to resist the building of housing on the site and in full consultation with Thanet residents being exploring alternative uses such as leisure, health, educational or employment based uses which will help to create much needed jobs. Leaving the site in private ownership could lead to land banking, major house building activity and other unsuitable developments. In any event there should be a major public consultation about the what the airport site could be used for. It cant be left up to greedy land speculators to impose unwanted and inappropriate developments on Thanet.
