Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle technique to help improve the activity, by focusing on the affected (swollen) areas such as the hands, arms, legs or whole body. It reduces the accumulation of fluid retained in the body (edema), increases venous return and it promotes pain control (analgesic). Who benefits from MLD? Its a muscle knot or a very tender point in the body. Trigger points are the primary cause of pain in the body, about 75% of the time. It affects a muscle by keeping it both tight and weak. The pain they cause can be local or can radiate to broader areas, distant from the trigger point itself. (ie. Headaches extending from back of the head to the eye and forehead are usually caused by trigger points on the suboccipital area, or base of head.) Trigger points get treated by first locating the knot in the muscle and then using several thumb and finger techniques with various pressure on and around the trigger point until the buildup of the knot is broken. Therapeutic Massage concentrates on the problem areas. Its focused on giving the client time to recover from the stress of daily life. Sports Massage/Stretch is performed while wearing comfortable clothing on the table or on the floor. These stretches are great for all athletes. Some of the areas stretched are legs, calves, hips, arms, neck and lower back. Sports massage focuses on the muscles relevant to your athletic activity. Performing the sports massage prior to a workout will warm the muscles, increases flexibility while preventing injury. After a workout, it will slow the heart rate and relaxes the overworked muscle. It can also reduce recovery time, prevent muscle soreness and stiffness, and alleviate pain.
