Many Christians and others think that legalism means being strict - TopicsExpress

Many Christians and others think that legalism means being strict and inflexible in standards and conduct. In some contexts perhaps that can be a satisfactory explanation. Legalism can be "red tape." But........... theologically speaking, it means the doctrine of JUSTIFICATION BY WORKS (which is contrary to the most important concept in Christianity!) Legalism is the foe of JUSTIFICATION BY GRACE ALONE (which is central to true Christianity). It (legalism) is the denial of the Gospel! Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Read Romans 5,6, and 9. Perhaps your understanding of "Christianity" will forever be changed! May God bless you with spiritual understanding. Only Jesus can save, and by the effectual working of His Holy Spirit, which is external to yourself - an "alien" righteousness - a righteousness not of your own - but that of Jesus Christ...... alone!
