Many JDCHS music department accolades & an upcoming Concert announcement ... Congratulations to two of our senior singers, Megan Tigue and Zach Schonrock, for their performances this past Saturday at the state solo and ensemble contest at Northridge High School in Layton. Megan earned a I on her solo—the top score possible—and Zach earned a I-, which is also quite commendable. These scores are not easy to achieve at the state level, and if you saw how many students were packed into that school that day, you would be convinced of the competitive nature of the contest. Megan and Zach have spent countless hours these past 4 years in polishing their own technique and developing their musicianship both in and out of class time, so please congratulate them if you have a chance! Our music department will miss them when they graduate. Congrats also to the Concert Choir, at the Regional Choir Festival held at Morgan H.S.. They received a II+ rating, which is considered excellent according to the judging standards. A superior I rating is reserved for the very finest performances. The choir performed exceedingly well, and I was pleased that they showed the fruits of their labor in performance. The judges especially commended our four boys for holding their own in a small section. Among those areas of performance rated as superior by the judges were rhythm and diction. During the performance, the choir sang in both English and Latin. Make sure you attend May 6 - “Dessert Pops” High School Concert– Featuring high school choir, jazz band, concert band, orchestra, percussion and steel drum band, and dessert, 7:00pm in JDCHS Commons.
