Many ask what happens with injured birds of prey if they can not be released? We are fortunate to have a facility at Salamonie Reservoir Interpretive Center located in the Lost Bridge West SRA. They have an aviary for some of these non releasable raptors which now call the center home. The center has an educational permit which allows them to take these birds off site to schools and pubic education events on a limited basis. The center has a turkey vulture, great horned owl (pictured), barred owl, red and gray phase screech owl (red phase pictured), red tailed hawk and a kestrel. There are knowledgeable staff on hand to assist officers when a bird needs medical attention and rehabilitation. The great horned owl pictured is blind in his left eye and the screech owl is missing his left wing. Stop by and view their aviary which is open during normal business hours! #birdsofprey #screechowl #greathornedowl
