Many atheists insist that theism needs to be `proven, for it to be - TopicsExpress

Many atheists insist that theism needs to be `proven, for it to be believed. But I think that view is just not reasonable. For, truth be told, most of the things we believe are not known with absolute certainty. It would be sufficient to believe in theism if, given the evidence we have, it is more reasonably affirmed than denied. Put it another way; if theism make much more sense of the whole range of human experience, it will be totally rational to subscribe to this worldview. So the issue, my friends, really isnt that God must be proven with absolute certainty to commend belief. Rather, the question should be does theism, given what we know, make much more sense than atheism. My answer to that is a resounding YES. Theism, to my mind, gives a much more plausible explanation for such things as the origin of the universe-its order and intelligibility; the origin of life, biological complexity and intelligence, as well as my belief in the objectivity of moral values and obligation.
