Many greetings from Nairobi. Hope you are well. It is my pleasure to introduce to you Hodari Youth Sports Foundation. It is a community based organization in Nairobi (Kenya) that harnesses the enormous power of sports (soccer) a...s a transformation organ, to catalyze and promote positive social change to hundreds of youth in our community. In Kenya, diarrhea, caused by lack of toilets and poor hygiene is the biggest killer of children, taking more lives than HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Others people still practice open defecation. One in seven people lack access to even minimum supplies of safe water for basic personal and domestic needs. Many public schools lack access to safe drinking water. Whereas, water may be generally available, it is often not treated, thus increasing the risk for contracting diarrhea. The situation is even worse with regard to sanitation. Hodari is first raising awareness about the importance of hand-washing with soap and facilitates hand-washing behavior change. Hand-washing with soap at these critical times reduces the risk of contracting diarrhea almost by a half. Secondly, we are also working to raise the relevance of sanitation at all levels, everywhere. We aim to make toilets, cool and desirable and build a broad community movement for sanitation for all. Thirdly, our work is based on the fundamental recognition that access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is a basic human right. We are dedicated to the process of making that happen but we need your help. This project is dubbed “Show Diarrhea the Red Card” and has been approved by GlobalGiving platform - an international online marketplace that connects donors with grassroots projects in the developing world. Our community is clearly excited and eager to see this project succeed. Just log to the link below - globalgiving.org/projects/show-diarrhea-the-red-card/ and be part of that excitement by supporting our youth with a $20 donation.
