Many have asked about the accident. Heres what happened: Briefly, as I drove back to Nebraska from Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 13, 2013, I lost control of my car (doing the speed limit of 75 MPH on cruise control). My car flipped 4 times in the air and landed, right side up, in a ditch. Three good Samaritans also driving on that road immediately stopped to help. One was a volunteer EMT, another was a mechanic. Without their help, my car would have exploded. My left shoulder was shattered. The air bags never deployed so the steering wheel and seat belt created rather large scars on my right side. (I was covered with glass, dirt, and blood). In the rural hospital in New Mexico, I received extremely good care including an immediate healing blessing in person and another over the phone. I was watched over by far more than a good hospital staff! My orthopedic specialist back in Lincoln was the head orthopedic surgeon for the Nebraska Football team and was extremely conservative in all aspects of my care. Full recovery of the left side happened more quickly than the right. I am still recovering the full use of my right side. I am fortunate and very grateful to be alive. My football team doctors have told me that I can no longer play contact sports(!)...thats fine with me. The recovery is a long one, but completely possible. Lots to look forward to, lots of beautiful letters to write, children to embrace, students to teach, concerti to play, and dances to dance ... Thanks for your concern and your kind, loving words ...(Im one of the lucky ones). This was exhausting to write out but I know that many of you didnt know...(especially for Genevieve, Paula, Neile, Johnnie).
