Unfortunately, this is far from reality. - Survivor activist, Jaha Thousands of U.S. girls are at risk of female genital mutilation (FGM) during the summer school holidays (“vacation cutting”). This violent human rights abuse is illegal and we need your help to stop it! Our partner and survivor Jaha, founder of Safe Hands for Girls, has a petition to the Obama Administration already has more than 180,000 signatures! Unfortunately, Congress has been slower to respond. On June 11, Equality Now and Jaha will travel to Washington, D.C. to call on the Administration to create a national strategy to address FGM, and we want as many members of Congress as possible to stand with her. Please help protect at risk girls by picking up your phone and calling your Representative today to ask them to stand with Jaha and all FGM survivors by signing Representatives Crowley and Jackson Lee’s ‘Dear Colleague’ letter by this FRIDAY, JUNE 6, asking the Obama Administration to develop a strategic plan to end FGM in the U.S. Representatives Joe Crowley (D-NY) and Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) are circulating a “call to colleagues” asking fellow members of Congress to join them in sending a letter to the Administration to develop a comprehensive plan to end #FGM in the US. 18 Congressional Representatives have signed on already, but we need them all to sign on by this FRIDAY, JUNE 6!
