Many liked mission 1999 story but it may not have enthused enough to leave comments. When pressed my friend Dr. Deepak Shetty has left a message in my inbox which states “ That stand-up comedy act was really hilarious”. Perhaps he was referring to 1998 part of the story and not 1999. A day before car festival 2000 begun, I watched a movie called “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai”, actor Hrithik Roshan’s debut film and a romantic action thriller. A combination of factors - Hrithik’s dancing abilities, Rajesh Roshan’s pleasant music, Udit Narayan and Lucky Ali’s charming voice for the song “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai” and “ Ek pal kaa jeena” cast such a charm, entire audience consisting mainly of youngsters start dancing inside the theatre. I have never ever seen a phenomenon like this before. The movie was really entertaining. Year after year failures at the festival had not deterred my zeal to find a life partner during the function itself. But I was going to turn 34 years old soon and I knew I was on the threshold of entering a danger zone. This car festival I dread is my last chance to get a girl of my requirements. Yet, I brag with my friends, Y2K is my car festival and no way am I going to eat humble pie like the preceding years. As usual I have selected a girl on the first day of the festival but do not reveal it to anyone. Fresh from watching a romantic action thriller film just before start of the festival, I want to do romance filmy style. On Hod Theru (Large Car) day, I have a Music CD of the very same film “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai” that I have watched recently. I desire to give her and declare my honourable intentions. The plan however goes awry because the moment I decide to move towards the girl to do what I have predetermined, the girl stares at me and shames me with a disapproving frown. Why did she mortify me? How come this girl has the prenotion and prevents me from drawing near to her? I scratch my head but cannot make out what has gone wrong. My romantic feelings and the music CD remain with me intact and do no reach the girl. It seems there is no end to my woes. Tired of listening to failed essays? Next Sunday be prepared for my one last sincere attempt at 2001 car festival.
