Many many heartfelt BEST WISHES to Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell who will be the next president of my alma mater, the College of Charleston, one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country, established in 1770. Lt. Gov. McConnell is a conservative Republican, a War Between the States reenactor and member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Secession Camp #4 in Charleston. Despite strong opposition from the NAACP, which was on the front page of the Post and Courier twice this week voicing their vehement opposition because McConnell is a reenactor (which, in their LAME thinking means he is a racist), the Board of Trustees voted UNANIMOUSLY for the Lt. Gov. He has an excellent reputation forged over 30 years among Democrats and Republicans (everybody except the NAACP, which says a lot about them). McConnells compromise on the Confederate battle flag above the Statehouse issue over a decade ago brought the flag down from the dome with honor and placed it in an historical context - a beautiful square Army of Northern Virginia flag with white border - next to the Confederate Soldiers Monument that was erected in 1879 (it faces North, from where the invaders came in the WBTS). The compromise also built a very fine monument to the contributions of African-Americans on the Statehouse grounds. A majority of people on both sides of the issue accepted the compromise and shook hands and it was over except for the NAACP. The NAACP, to this day, maintains a boycott against the tourism industry in South Carolina, which has been totally ineffective and become a joke since the mayor of Charleston Joe Riley is trying mightily to raise millions for the African American slavery museum to be built in the next few years. That is certainly a worthy endeavor but I guess the NAACP is against the museum since they are still boycotting SC tourism. The NAACP said last week it was going to wage war against the College of Charleston and tell potential students and athletes not to come here if McConnell is chosen. Good luck keeping people away from Charleston! Another victim of NAACP bigotry is the University of South Carolina womens basketball team which features many black players who are a NUMBER ONE SEED in the NCAA Tournament but can not host a tournament game because of the NCAAs BIGOTED DISCRIMINATION against the State of South Carolina because of the historic battle flag next to the monument. That NCAA discrimination is unquestionably inspired by the NAACP. I do not see why our governor or attorney general has not SUED THE NCAA for civil rights violations and discrimination because THEY ARE CERTAINLY GUILTY. Good luck to Lt. Gov. McConnell and the College of Charleston, which has an extremely bright future!!!
