Many of my dearest Fayetteville friends are feeling a real sense of loss and rejection this morning. As a pastor here in Fayetteville please permit me to express my deep sadness for you...for us. This turn of events has largely been fueled by church people. Please do not lose all hope in God just because some of his children are obnoxious brats. This week John Pavlovitz said of Western Christianity, Weve lost the ability to welcome diversity of thought. Weve made the Church a members-only club, defined by the narrowest of doctrines and the most rigid understandings of God and Scripture. We have two religious menu options when it comes to orthodoxy: Totality or Heresy. Please know that there were church members representing the full faith and values of several congregations (including mine) who voted to keep and protect our anti-discrimination ordinance. These inclusive bodies (churches) want to touch the apathetic majority of our citizens with the message of Gods love and grace. We do not want the cause of Christianity in Fayetteville to be defined by those who stir up trouble, express hatred, and are quick to send someone straight to hell. with love and sorrow, jim huffman pastor of Christs Church a community church located in Fayetteville, Arkansas Cc: Lioneld Jordan; Kit Williams; Don Marr; Mark Kinion; Adella Gray; Matthew Petty; Sarah Marsh; Rhonda Bedford Adams; AlanThomas Long;
