Many of the issues we face as a country would disappear with the implementation of real local government. The closer government is to the people the better government you have. We need government to be more responsive. When you are close to people and accessible, there is no choice but to be responsive. The PLP and the FNM have given only token attention to local government. The clear effort has always been to control people rather than empower people. The is no difference between the FNM and the PLP. They are two sides of the same coin. When it comes to empowering Bahamian people, this coin has no value. Government is no good to the people if it will suppress them and not empower them. This administration claims to believe in Bahamians but has led in expatriating the Bahamian agencies. We have given the airports to NAD which discriminates against small Bahamian businesses. NAD acts to maintain the status quo. Local government will help wake up Bahamians to be involved in decisions affecting their lives. Local government is important and I will continue to address this issue. It ties in to Urban Renewal 3.0. This will be The DNAs upgrade on Urban Renewal. The Urban Renewal programme is receiving a lot of public money. What systems of accounting and control are in place? This is a disaster in the making.
