Many of the public battles over technology are really two companies fighting for profit. In the 1890s, Thomas Edison was battling George Westinghouse over whether Edisons DC current or Westinghouses AC current would win acceptance. As part of the fight, Edisons pals ran public experiments to demonstrate AC was more dangerous by electrocuting animals with an AC current.
