Many of us are drawn to horseback riding so please be aware that they are prey animals and have a very powerful and natural built in for survival the "fear to flight" response. My farrier is amazing and comes from a long line of horsemen in his family. He shared some very tragic stories with me today and a few he personally witnessed of death due to accidents and horses that spooked or were attacked by a dog. Two were children. He lost his older brother to a bad kick while shoeing a horse and he himself has been trampled on and knocked out while shoeing a young horse. Please educate yourself of horse behavior and always have a well trained person that knows horsemanship and has as much safety skills while around horses as possible. They are loving, majestic and peaceful creatures and not to be feared, but respect the prey instinct to keep you and the ones you love out of harms way. They only are reacting to fear, not evil.
