Many of us have never thought there would be a reason to have more than one valid passport, and would never expect that it is even possible. However, there are situations when a U.S. citizen may have good reason to need a second valid passport and it is, in fact, possible to apply for one. Typically U.S. Passports are valid for 10 years. A second valid passport may be issued at the discretion of the U.S. Passport Agency. In such cases the second passport would typically be valid for 2 years. The most common reasons why a U.S. citizen may need a second valid passport include: • A frequent traveler may need their passport for an international trip, but at the same time need to submit a valid passport with visa application(s) for upcoming travel. • A second passport may be needed if the traveler is visiting a country that objects to a visa or entry stamp from another country. When the applicant can demonstrate a need to hold two valid passports, Travisa can assist with the second passport application. Pilots and business travelers, for example, often find themselves in this position. The frequent traveler will need to find time to submit their original passport along with the second valid passport application, but emergency same day processing is an option with Travisa. The benefit of having two passports available for visa processing and travel is well worth it to those individuals.
