Many of us no longer read the Bible because we claim to no longer find it rewarding, yet the truth is that, just as our body needs a daily intake of food to survive, our soul needs a regular nourishment of God’s Word in order to thrive. For that reason, the Bible says, “…man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3). So if Job, who had more trouble than any of us ever will could say, “…I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12), and you, who spend hours each day watching TV, claim not to have time to read the Bible, know that your soul is in need of intensive care!
