Many of you asked that I would keep you updated on the facts about the Dysart Bond Election. I’ve been doing some information gathering and here is what I have found: Total Monies: 86.8 million A. 6.1 million: facility/security/safety improvements B. 27.3 million: Technology/instructional equipment I can only speak for my school. 14 of my students share 1 computer. Obviously not enough for me to do any type of computer or technology instruction. C. 26.8 million: Facility Maintenance projects We haven’t had money to do regular maintenance and upkeep so this will help cover those needs. Painting, repairs, etc. D. 6.6 million: Pupil Transportation Equipment Buses, repairs and the cost of transporting kids. E. 20 million: School Construction/Land Purchase This is the BIG one that could affect you. Many Dysart schools are busting at the seams. This would allow Dysart to build a new elementary school to absorb some of our population expansion. What are the plans to help with the population expansion if the bond doesn’t pass? 1. Many school boundaries will change. This means your child may not be able to attend school in your neighborhood. Some students may be bused to different neighborhoods to attend schools with less attendance. 2. Variances may be eliminated. This means that if your child attends a school other than your neighborhood school, you will no longer have that choice. OTHER FACTS: 1. AZ is still in the bottom 2 when it comes to funding. That means 48 other states spend more on education than we do, but please don’t get your facts wrong. Arizona does not perform in the bottom. In fact, even though we are one of the poorest systems in the U.S., we perform right in the middle. So those of you that so eloquently stated that you thought teachers don’t do their jobs, just keep your ignorant uninformed opinions to yourself, because that is what they are. This post is meant for intelligent discussion. 2. This is a mail in ballot only. You should receive your ballot through the mail and you will need to mail it in by the deadline. 3. This will cause a slight increase in your property tax which is one of the lowest property taxes in the nation. I am working on finding out exactly what that slight increase is for the average citizen. I will post it as soon as I can.
