Many of you have now heard about the Dane in Clarksville who is at a weight of 58lbs. Every one of your hearts went out to him just as ours did with Dames For Danes. Thank you for every prayer. We were able to contact the shelter and arrange for this boy to become part of our organization and our ever growing Dane family. He does have rescue and he will be safe. He will have a long way to go as the issues are deeper than simply a need for food. Love is what will bring this boy through all things. I have had the opportunity to find out a history on this Dane. It is not often that we are able to find a full story and a life path but this story is one in which hurts me to the core in many ways. There are many things in which can be learned from this story for all of us and i will get to that. This Everyone is Chief. Chief is four years old and on the third home in which can successfully be tracked back. A couple who owned Chief contacted some friends and asked that they babysit Chief for a couple of weeks. They never returned. A kind family was then left with a Great Dane they could not keep. They kept him for almost 8 months hoping his owners would return but they never did. This family set out in search of a new and wonderful home for Chief. They were inexperienced in rehomeing but did what they thought was a wonderful job in finding a wonderful young family. There is no blame for this family as they were trying to do a good and loving thing. They did not want Chief to end up at a shelter. This would be where Daniel and Jessica Thompson came into the picture and into Chiefs life like a storm. Daniel Thompson told this kind family that he was a Wounded Warrior and that he would be taking Chief on as his personal therapy Dane. That this Dane would help him through the issues in which he experienced from being at war and that he would give him all of the love possible. If he was a Wounded Warrior we are uncertain. But what we are certain of is that he is no hero. The Thompsons have only had Chief for 10 weeks time. This boy left at a healthy body weight and you can see the before and after photos here on this post. They have fed this boy NOTHING! Not one piece of food as you can tell from the low body weight on this boy. It is astonishing what has happened. Right now we are working on securing a foster home for this boy. We would prefer a foster home with no young children and at this time no small dogs. It is not because Chief hasnt done very well with both in the past, but because when a Dane is this hungry they can and many times do become dangerous to anything with food. Small children who carry cookies, drop food, etc would be something we are not willing to risk at this time. Small dogs are easy to be snatched up if food becomes an issue. In the past Chief has gotten along well with small children who are respectful and small dogs if introduced properly. This is what i need now. Chief is in need of full vetting as well as some other issues which i will fill you in on down the road. But for now shots, worming, heartworm testing, flea and tick, and a neuter as soon as the body weight increases to allow. I will also need boarding fee. This boy is going to have to be observed by a veterinarian as he has been in a meth house and been exposed to the severe chemicals in which meth contains. We have to make certain that this boy has all of his marbles in line. We need a 14 day boarding pass in the Nashville to the Knoxville area or donations to cover such. You can donate to Dames for Danes via Paypal at the address of damesfordanes@gmail or send a check to our PO Box 4922 Oak Ridge, TN 37831. Dames is critically low on funding at this time which is a first but due to the severity of several heartworm positive Danes we are critically low. We need your support financially to get this boy on the right road. Please Help. We never ask but we are begging now. Your deductions are tax deductible and we will send a receipt if requested. Please-- We all know how terribly shocking this is. We understand what you feel when you see it as we have all cried together and knew the moment the story was posted we wanted to make him well. Please let us keep the negative away. We all know the issues that are wrong surrounding but what we need now is love, prayers, and goodwill for Chief. Much Love to each one of you for everything you do even if it is simply just your kind prayers and support. wkrn/story/25871462/children-dogs-found-in-home-covered-in-feces-couple-charged PLEASE SHARE!
