Many of you have read the latest new post by Andy Crouch about Sam Adams. It is an interesting article and generates some interesting points. While I am not a fan of every Sam Adams beer, I have to say the quality is always there. There are some that I seek our regularly. In fact, when I used to live in Boston from 85-91, I do remember their advent. While early on, I was not a craft beer guy, but i slowly gained a taste for quality beer. From 89-91, I remember going to the limited craft beer bars then, and you would hear about a limited edition version of such and such beer that someone only had one keg of and you should get over there to try it. One of which of these was the Cranberry Lambic, probably one of the most demonized beers in the craft beer elitedom. The problem was, most of these people lacked a sense of context. Sure, it truly was not the spontaneously fermented beers from the Senne Valley that we are used to. However, in 1989 or 90, this was unheard of, nobody at the time was trying to make these fantastic beers that we could only get at good bars who carried these great beers (Sunset Grill and Tap, this is a toss out). The Cranberry Lambic was their attempt at something that was totally different from what was on the market then. It wasnt great, but dammit, it was Americans trying to do what the Belgians were doing. As a homebrewer, it was inspiring that we could make something a little different. So, I just wanted to say, while Sam Adams might not always be your thing, give it a shot, most of their beers are pretty damn good, and do not forget that they are a big part of craft beers history. This is a great response to things: https://antiherobrewing.wordpress/2015/01/05/sam-adams-and-why-we-need-to-stop-listening-to-hipsters/
