Many of you know I believe everyone with a passion for writing has a message given them by God. Im not writing now to argue that point (as Ive heard the arguments before). Can we agree to disagree if your opinion differs? What I am asking with this post is that we keep three families, in particular, in our prayers. These are the families of writers who chased a passion to the other side of the world. A passion that has now either endangered or caused loss of life. I speak, of course, on behalf of the families of James Foley, Joel Sotloff and Austin Tice of Houston. Mr. Foleys heart breaking demise is painted in every news source this morning. Mr. Sotloff appears to be held by the same terrorist group and Mr. Tice is also missing in Syria. As a writer, I can understand feeling compelled to tell a story. As an individual, I cannot remotely imagine that passion having a cost that includes being kidnapped and worse. Join me today in prayer for those who have far more difficult journeys than we, as writers tucked safely in our cozy chairs, will ever face.
