Many of you know me for my underwater images, and while my passion - TopicsExpress

Many of you know me for my underwater images, and while my passion is marine photography the majority of my income comes from photography done on land. That is why I upgraded to D810 from a D300. And, it is an awesome tool. My landscape images and family portraits have never looked better. It was worth the $$$. Now, however I want to put the camera in a housing and this is causing me all kinds of head ache. The D300 was and is one of the best underwater cameras ever made. It is a DX format and when used with the 10-17 Tokina lens creates beautiful wide angle images. I have used that lens for most of my whale trips. I love it. While it will work on the D810 I wont be able to zoom. I will have to set it at 17. I am ok with that. But, when I shop for housings and optical glass ports there are no options that work. Its because the of the diameter of the ports on the outings has gotten wider in the last 7 years. If I have an extension ring made that will adapt the port to the new housing the distance from the port to the Nodal plane changes and this affects clarity. It seems I have to give up my Tokina and purchase a new lens. So far its looking to be a 15 mm Sigma 2.8 fisheye. I will also have to buy an optical glass 7 inch dome port. So, its the domino affect. One need leads to another and before you know it a fortune has been spent. If I start calling you guys and asking to be invited over for dinner, now you know why.................
