Many of you know that I have been unhappy with the lack of growth - TopicsExpress

Many of you know that I have been unhappy with the lack of growth in the body of my now 3 1/2 year old gelding. He has Long Legs but kept a baby body and then stayed thin thin thin for a long time. His knees did not fully set till early summer 2013. Around 3 years old. It has been a real challenge to actually put some weight on him and feel that he is grown enough to ride. I have placed a saddle on him numerous times, but didnt tighten cinch, if he had a fit, itd have been underneath him. Like a kid in his Dads boots. By last summer I had sat on him a bunch of times and in the fall was sitting there bareback and working on directing him around with a halter/lead. After 2 weeks of vacation and a week to return to normal it was time to bring him out again. He has finally put on enough weight to look normal and grown enough to no longer appear like a baby. I fed him and brought him out away from his buddies and hay. I stood him by the truck while I got out his stuff and he was fine. Turned him loose for the second trip and he came right to me when I returned. He stood there loose while i brushed him off (one side is a wet muddy mess) and only ran off twice while asking for his feet. he was still standing loose when I threw the saddle pad up and only looked at it. He investigated the saddle and again only looked at me when I put it on him. and the saddle too of course. He stood totally still while i straightened everything and never moved a muscle when I tightened up the cinch. and when I did it again, or again. I was so proud of him! Then I sent him off to move around with it on, and he was fine. No bucks or jumps or what the heck is this attitude. He just ran away and around. When I tightened the cinch again, he still stood there for me. This time I used a bitless bridle rather than the halter. When I stepped up into the saddle and sat down, he did....... nothing. He walked all around and only tried to plant his feet a couple times. But he did walk off after shaking his head a few times. He went where I asked and stopped when I asked. And seemed to care not a bit about any of it. Hurray!!! He really wanted me to use his muddy side and refused to stay back far enough for me to get all of him. The silly pony.
