Many of you may have met Sophie, the Umbrella Cockatoo. She was an owner surrender last Spring and has been to many of our events. We told the original owners we would hang on to her and socialize her this year, hoping that once they got moved out of state and had time to settle in they would take her back. That does not appear to be the case. While Sophie is a doll and great for events (since she will let anyone hold her), we had agreed for the sanity of our household, that we would adopt her out, should her owners not take her back. As much as we hate to uproot her again, she has experienced so much with us, and can hopefully now experience the love and devotion that a normal household can provide for her. She is six years old, and was purchased from Bird Fever as a baby by the owners who surrendered her. (Please note that her lifespan could be 80 yrs.) She will be adopted with her very large California cage, and we expect her to continue using it. She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. She would really like to spend most of her time outside her cage with the option to come and go into the cage as she pleases, but with all the dogs and cats here, that is not an option. She came speechless, other than screams, but has begun picking up on words here and there. You have the rest of our birds to thank for some of that:) She came to us with no experience with other animals, but has now been around dogs, cats and other large birds. Her adoption fee is $500 including the cage. If you are seriously interested and have an appropriate home and long term plan for adoption, please contact us by private message or email us at [email protected].
