Many of you received this from me the old-fashioned way, and here it is again via a LONG Facebook post. Read on - enjoy - and thanks for supporting Clevelands neighborhoods and small businesses! (The Capitol Theatre is owned by my employer, Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization.) The Capitol Theatre has an exciting opportunity this upcoming weekend, August 1-3, and I would love to enlist your support in spreading the word. It promises to be the makings of a terrific evening in Gordon Square. Many of you have heard of the new Richard Linklater movie, BOYHOOD, which is being released to wide acclaim. In an unusual move, the distributor for BOYHOOD has agreed to a Cleveland movie release extending to four theaters only – including the Capitol Theatre. (The other theaters that will be showing the movie are the Capitol’s healthiest competitors: Cinemark at Valley View, Regal Crocker Park and unsurprisingly, the Cedar Lee.) After nearly five years of owning a movie theater and closely watching its performance along with our operator, Cleveland Cinemas, there is one thing that Detroit Shoreway C.D.O. knows for certain. Opening weekend ticket revenues matter! In other words, the more audience we can drive to the Capitol this opening weekend – either Friday August 1, Saturday August 2, or Sunday August 3 – the better poised Capitol will be to get the best movies in the future. Studios and distributors watch opening weekends carefully, and they’ll be watching Capitol to see how we stack up in this market. So please: invite and encourage friends, family, loved ones and colleagues to visit Gordon Square this weekend for a fabulous movie going experience in the heart of Cleveland’s best neighborhood. Feel free to share or like us on Facebook. If you’d like to forward this e-mail directly, here’s what visitors need to know: For tickets and showtimes, visit clevelandcinemas Visit our wonderful neighborhood establishments for drinks, dinner, brunch, appetizers, coffee or dessert before or after a movie – and stay and shop while you’re at it! gordonsquare.org/discover.html Free parking is available throughout the district Don’t forget, Capitol has the best movie theater popcorn in Cleveland and beer and wine available at the concession stand. yelp/biz/capitol-theatre-cleveland
